Resumen

This article offers an approach to the medieval teaching methods. Firstly, the main features of the academic institutions (monastic schools, cathedral schools and colleges – studium generale-) are summarized. Then the article discusses the ideal portrait of teacher and student, program of study, didactics, learning strategies, instructional materials and readings for each field of knowledge (Grammar, Rhetoric, Dialectics, Arithmetic, Music, Astronomy, Medicine, Law and Theology). All this items are studied through the theoretical treatises from the Iberian Peninsula (Alonso de Cartagena, Rodrigo Sánchez de Arévalo, Juan Alfonso de Benavente, Elio Antonio de Nebrija…)
