Resumen

Giovanni Piranesi developed his artistic work in eighteenth-century Rome, when the Grand Tour was at its highest and monuments and objects were rediscovered in Rome, but also in Pompeii or Herculaneum. Defender of the importance of Roman and Egyptian art, known for the descriptions of classical authors and the remains, monumental or not, that the Roman emperors had transferred to Rome. In his last major work, Diverse Miniere d'adornare i cammini ed ogni altra parte degli edifizi (1769), designed the decoration of 16 chimneys and the interior of Caffe degli Inglesi in Rome with pharaonic motifs. A work little valued despite starting a pharaonic "revival" that in the early nineteenth century was converted in an Egyptomania that also existed in the furniture and decoration.
