Abstract

This paper aims to shed new light on research about the acquisition of education of the female characters in Emilia Pardo Bazán’s novels. To do this, we focus on the fundamental act of teaching these heroines how to read in their early years, heroines whose destiny is marked out by their love of reading. In this article, we propose to show that teaching how to read is a crucial educational method for giving those heroines normative female identities, as well as for avoiding them and creating alternative new models.
