Resum

‘Micromegas’ is a cultural heritage artistic educational project that aims to create an artistic installation for the urban surroundings near the Ribeira school (an elementary school in Viseu, Portugal). It involves a visual arts based educational research proposal that utilizes the sculptural process as a research method. Further, it is based on Artistic Teaching Methodologies (Rubio Fernández, 2015). The art possesses its own characteristics and qualities that facilitate significant learning through the aesthetic experience (Dewey, 1980). The end result of this artistic process is that the participating students are capable of acquiring knowledge and skills in essential issues of future performance: collaborative work, critical thinking, development of creativity, acquisition of digital competence, communication skills, etc. In Figure 1 we can see two results of the project, the sketch for a sculpture that would form a part of the installation and a snapshot of the final assembly of the installation
