Chicanas, identities and translators

Resumen

Borderlands, women and translations can be analyzed from a similar perspective. The three of them can be found in the short stories written by Chicanas. This connection allows for a reflection about translation theory and practice within postcolonial and multicultural contexts. All transformations taking place from the writing of the original to the reading of the translation can contribute to the skopos of the literary work, and thus, function as a very important agent. On the grounds of this opportunity, translators can think of their re-writings either as mere means of transport for the fictional content of the literary creations, or as vindications in the form of multicultural (re)unions. Many elements have to be taken into account during the translation process if target texts intend to be instruments for social transformation and identity-building processes in a globalized world in which, unfortunately, the Other is still considered to be an exotic and marketable element. Feminine and feminist vindications can also shed some light onto this mixture of cultures, languages and uncontrollable reactions.
