Zusammenfassung

Dual career represents a challenge for European universities that need new ways to reorganize knowledge, rules and learning models that offer their student-athletes to achieve a successful academic career while their sporting development. The present work has as purpose to know the academic success of a university model of dual race of athletes-students in general and according to gender, level of studies and type of sport. 139 student athletes participated (91 men and 48 women), who remained academically active (they took exams) during the 2015-2016 academic year. The design was quasi-experimental, longitudinal through which the dual career model was applied. Their influence was assessed on the success rate (number of credits enrolled, compared to those exceeded). The results showed that the success rate was high (72.83%), but female students, undergraduates and racket sports athletes obtained significantly higher values. These results could mean that the applied model solves the disagreements present to date in the programs of support to the athlete in the universities and, therefore, helps them overcome the barriers to facilitate an adequate conciliation between sports and academic life.
