Resum

Introduction: Cryptorchidism means one or both testicles undescended, they are located anywhere between the abdominal cavity and the entrance of the scrotum. It is the one most prevalent congenital abnormality at birth, most of whom are premature male infants. Objective: This study has two aims. Firstly, to carry out a literature review about hormonal treatment of cryptorchidism with Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and luteinizing hormone-realising hormone (LHRH). Secondly, to find out how to cope with the short- and long-term consequences of this treatment. Methods: A bibliography review related to subject was made from 01-01-2013 to 28-02-2017.Results: Most cases will go away on their own. Otherwise, if they do not, it is important to get treatment due to they may have long-term consequences for testicular function such as infertility or a higher chance of developing testicular cancer. Although there is a current trend towards the use of hormonal therapy in order to induce spontaneous testicular descent to the scrotum, the surgical therapy is the most common treatment. Conclusion: Hormonal therapy is not recommended for standard treatment due to its low use in routine clinical practice, as well as the different effects they cause. Longitudinal studies are needed to analyse its effects.
