Abstract

Nowadays, thanks to the inclusion of the Internet in the currenttelevision landscape, different ways of consuming television have been established. The present audiovisual ecosystem is experiencing a moment of maximum splendor as a result of the inclusion of on-demand audiovisual platforms, which have favored an increase in the supply of content, especially in terms of serialized fiction. In our country, the production of television series has increased, especially in recent times. The main objective of this paper is, on the one hand, to find out how the audience has been changing on the main audiovisual platforms in Spain and, on the other hand, to identify the evolution of the production and distribution of television series in Spain over the last five years. To do so, it has been chosen the three platforms that nowadays have the largest number of users, according to studies carried out by Barlovento Comunicación (2020): Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and HBO. With regard to the methodology used, a quantitative study will be carried out to find out, on the one hand, how the audience has evolved in terms of the consumption of audiovisual content on the Internet and, on the other hand, to findout what has been the development of the production of serialized fiction in terms of audiovisual platforms in Spain. The main results show that there has been an increase in the number of Spanish series produced on the three platforms studied, with sitcoms, thrillers, and comedies as the main series produced. It can be checked that the audience in these media is increasing and consolidating over time.
