Resumen
Yersinia are pathogenic enterobacteria. Yersinia pestis, Y. enterocolitica y Y. pseudotuberculosis are the three species that cause disease in humans. Historically, Y. pestis highlights, which has starred in three major pandemics with devastating results, such as the “Black Death”. There are three main types of plague: bubonic, septicemic and pneumonic. The rapidity of diagnosis and administration of appropriate therapy is key to curing this disease. Yersinia pseudotuberculosis produces a characteristic picture of mesenteric adenitis as opposed to Yersinia enterocolitica which causes ileitis or enterocolitis associated with fever, diarrhea and abdominal pain. The characteristics of this bacterium makes it ideal for use as a weapon in bioterrorism, which has ensured that the research does not cease to try to develop an effective vaccine.
