Los círculos restaurativos: una propuesta metodológica innovadora de aula de Educación Primaria

Resumo
This educational intervention, conducted with 1st grade students at a primary state school in the Balearic Islands, has as its main objective to develop group cohesion through restorative circles. The aim was to work on the sense of belonging to a group, ways of showing respect, fellowship and friendship, as well as promoting the understanding of how individual behaviors affect a group. Direct observation and the analysis of a sociogram revealed the need to do this intervention and pursue this objective. The methodology was based on the students’ needs and interests, as well as on their relationship and interaction with their classmates. The pedagogy of restorative circles described in Hopkins (2003) provided a structured timing for meetings with the group. During these sessions positive relationships were built through conversations and different dynamics. In general terms, the results of the intervention were positive, and the majority of students declared to have noticed positive changes in the relationship with their classmates. However, it is possible that with more interventions long-term results could be more visible. In conclusion, restorative circles could be an efficient methodology in itself, thus it seems convenient to extend its use in the classroom.
