Resumen
Violence against women in intimate partner relationships (IPVAW) and intimate partner homicide against women (IPHAW) are events of great relevance, and first-order in the media. Through a comprehensive review of 171 cases of IPHAW and 201 cases of IPVAW, the aim of this study is to explore those characteristics that differentiate and resemble the non-lethal aggressors’ group from the femicides’ group. Age differences were found in variables related to criminal career, drug use, and others, such as being in a separation process or suicidal behaviour related variables. Our results indicate that, although the perpetrators of these criminal typologies share common characteristics, there are also many others that differentiate them. This shows the need for individualized treatments for the different perpetrators and offers the possibility of refining tools for predicting the risk of intimate partner femicide.
