Resumo

IIntroduction: Lymphedema is a side effect of breast cancer surgery and radiation treatment. Early physical therapy, after surgery, is used to improve and maintain arm function and the quality of life. Objective: To determine the most efficient physiotherapeutic intervention in women with lymphedema caused by a mastectomy after surgery for breast cancer. Methods: The bibliographic search was performed in Pubmed, Scopus, Scielo and PEDro databases. To evaluate the methodological quality, the Pedro scale and the Downs and Black scale were used. A total of 10 articles were selected and classified into 5 categories according to the type of physiotherapeutic intervention. Results: Manual lymphatic drainage, kinesiotaping, pneumatic compression, laser therapy and the complete decongestive therapy showed significant improvement in different symptoms of lymphedema in the treated grouped. Conclusion: The complete decongestive therapy showed evidence as the most complete treatment for a greater reduction in the volume of lymphedema besides not causing adverse effects .
