Resumen
Self-forgiveness is a deeply complex psychological concept that, despite having been the object of study for several years, still demands further exploration and analysis. It is interesting to consider its relationship with other variables that, so far, have been little explored, such as narcissistic personality traits. This doctoral thesis is divided into two complementary studies, the first one aims to adapt the scales of Perceived Social Responsibility, Desire for Reconciliation and Differential Process of Forgiveness to the Spanish population. The second aims to test an explanatory model of the self-forgiveness process that explores both its possible incidence on psychological well-being and the role played by narcissistic personality traits (adaptive and maladaptive). From the first study we obtained three instruments adapted to our population with excellent reliability indexes, which allowed them to be used in the second study. In this last study we observed that our model of self-forgiveness process has optimal levels of adjustment, from this finding we present several significant conclusions among which we highlight: narcissism should cease to be understood as a unidimensional construct, consequently, we can affirm that maladaptive narcissism is the dimension of narcissism that has the greatest impact on the process of self-forgiveness. Within this process both psychological well-being and the desire for reconciliation function as outcome variables of the model. We also confirm that perceived personal responsibility ends up being a key aspect in the whole process of self-forgiveness. Finally, we acknowledge strengths and limitations of the studies and propose future lines of research based on the results obtained.
