Résumé

Malnutrition in older patients is common and associated with various complications, including morbidity and mortality, hospitalizations, readmissions, and an increase in healthcare costs. However, it tends to be underdiagnosed. Prevention, diagnosis, and an early treatment approach are key in order to avoid complications. All older patients should be assessed in terms of nutrition by means of a validated scale such as the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form and, in the event of a positive screening, the study should be confirmed with a scaled assessment that includes the GLIM criteria as a malnutrition diagnostic tool. In addition, an individualized treatment plan that will be periodically re-evaluated must be created for all patients at risk of malnutrition or who are malnourished.
