Abstract

Current research studies whether playing a relational role (father, mother, friend or partner) can modificate the way men and women are perceived. López-Sáez y Morales (1995) instrumentation (based on Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI)) was used upon a sample of 1822 students from non private schools in Madrid autonomous region, followed by correlational and descriptive analysis designed with an ex post facto criteria.Based on the results yielded by this study, we can stand that the relational role played by a person impacts the way it is described, and it can also disturb the expectations of gender stereotype. It has also been underlined that no matter what sex or gender had been assigned to a person, it tends to absorb more feminine traits while exercising a relational role, very especially in parenthood and partnership roles. Nevertheless, gender and sex assigned to a person comes relevant by means that she partners and friends are assigned a higher amount of feminine traits than he partners and friends.
