Résumé
The general objective of this doctoral thesis is to rescue Magda Arnolds personality theory, who is a figure of the twentieth century academic psychology. Although Arnold is known for being a pioneer of cognitive theories of emotion, the proposal contained in her writings is broader and also covers many other aspects. However, there are few studies that analyze her contribution to fields such as personality theory, emotional education or character education. Therefore, we have conducted a theoretical study of her proposal, reviewing various publications and unpublished documents that collect her ideas and considerations on the subject of personality and the various psychological functions such as emotion, memory, motivation and imagination. We analyze the theoretical foundations, both philosophical and psychological, in order to understand more deeply the psychological system she proposes. From this study we expose the contribution that Arnolds theory makes to current psychology, establishing a comparison with widely spread models in the field of personality, such as the Big Five, Millon's and Cloninger's models. Among the conclusions reached, we highlight the explanatory potential of the general model of psychological functioning proposed by Arnold and of different concepts that make up his theoretical system, such as affective memory, imagination and the self-ideal, among others. We also offer her model as a theoretical framework to explain personality, a model that can give unity to a field as varied and diverse as that of personality psychology or character education.
