Abstract

The Schola cantorum of San Salvatore in Lauro, an institution that would aim to form musically students who would take part in different Vatican Roman chapels as a choir of white voices, was inaugurated with a papal presence on February 1, 1869 under the direction of the Brother Vincenzo Torri (1869 - 1909), who since 1904 was assisted by Brother Pacifico Ferrarelli, who would be his successor 1909-1956), with his last director being Brother Riccardo Bucossi (1956-1969). The archives of their archive that have documentation collected by the choir masters (Brothers Vincenzo, Pacifico and Bucossi) as well as their intact musical archive, of more than 800 scores, will allow us to delve into the musical imaginary that this institution gathers around the founder of the Congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. On a date as marked as the Tercentenary of the death of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the analysis of the music dedicated to its founder will allow us to approach the musical legacy composed and dedicated to him as well as show the typology of repertoire in function of gender, authorship and dating, observing their creative origin and functionality as well as the dedications of these works.
