Abstract

In this paper, we gather and analyze the poetries that appear in the preambles of musical treatises of the XVI century. These writings reveal important contextual information, showing references to these authors and constant allusions to the Classical Greece. Also, these writings reveal the relevance and status of music among writers, printers and artists from different disciplines. This instalment is the first part of a wider work, which will deal with poetries from other periods (XVII and XVIII centuries).
