Zusammenfassung

Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. In Spain it is second only to cardiovascular disease as the greatest cause of mortality. In recent years, the work of the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) has been transferred onto social media. This research analyses how the AECC informs and raises awareness of this disease on Facebook -the most widely used social network in Spain. The informative posts published over a period of three months were studied. The results show how the information strategy in this social network is based on communicating the activities of the association as well as promoting behavioural changes that include adopting habits leading to healthy lifestyle. Publications either do not mention this disease or they refer to it only in a general way. The resource most commonly used is the link to the association's own website together with inclusion of the image. Finally, followers prefer using the “like” option or sharing the message rather than talking about it.
