Resumen
Intellectual disability affects communication, which is one of the basic processes to achieve personal and social autonomy. Verbal communication skills or using augmentative and / or alternative communication system are based on different cognitive processes, including memory. This research aims to analyze the relationship between the level of communication and visual memory in a group of subjects with intellectual disabilities. The study sample is composed of 31 students, of both sexes , aged between 6 and 16 years enrolled in a Special Education Center, which is administered Communication Matrix to assess the level of communication and memory test Cuestionario de Madurez Neuropsicológica CUMANIN to assess visual memory. The results indicate the existence of significant high positive correlation between communication and visual memory. These data have interesting educational implications for the development of intervention programs based on enhancing the levels of visual memory in students with intellectual disabilities and improve their level of academic, personal and social communication.
