Abstract

This research aimed to characterize the challenges of implementing the ECO (explore, create, and offer) teaching method and assess its accomplishment and perceived impact on teaching by university professors. An exploratory and descriptive study was performed using an online survey. The sample was composed of 22 university professors from four Spanish universities and one Argentinean university. The surveyed professors taught to a combined total of 1525 undergraduate and graduate students during the academic year 2018-19. The results showed that the professors were satisfied with the ECO method. They perceived a positive impact on student learning and professional development. In addition, they introduced innovative changes regarding the relationship with learners, the physical teaching space, methodology and student projects. In conclusion, the ECO method is a methodological change for the university environment that promotes complete integral education and a more committed educational system for society
