Microblogging, the ability to communicate with the world using only a small number of characters, is one of the most widely used social networking applications but those have not yet been exploited enough to the teaching field. In order to conduct this study, Twitter, the mostly widely used microblogging social network, was used before, during and after classes. Questions related the syllabus were “tweeted”. Important points from different class sessions were highlighted in the tweets and the content of subsequent sessions was tweeted ahead of time in order to receive and monitor visible feedback within the network (made up of students in the class). Upon completion of the course a questionnaire to all participants where asked about the experience and their attitude to the use of this tool for teaching was provided. A very frequent interaction between the same partners with the classroom and teacher were observed. The results show a very positive attitude of the students towards the use of these tools for teaching. This article concludes that the use of these virtual tools allow transformation of the education system based on "teaching" into one based on "learning.”
