Resumen

The right to respect for private and family life, recognised in Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, plays a fundamental role in the protection, not only of the family, but also, in particular, of the rights of minors. In this context, the definition of the concept of “family life” and its scope provided by the European Court of Human Rights based, among others, on the existence and effectiveness of family ties, has made it possible to determine essential aspects in relation to institutions such as adoption, surrogacy or family reunification, as we shall see.
