This work proposes a comparative analysis between the Argentine noir novel and the Mediterranean noir in order to mark analogies and differences and to reconstruct a baggage of narrative gears and knowledge that transforms detective fiction into a genre of social denunciation. From this perspective, approaching the genre in Argentinean literature (particularly in the works produced in the 1970s and 1980s) and in Mediterranean literature (particularly in the works produced in the 1970s and 1980s in Spain, Italy and France), implies not only the search for noir's own registers, but also the determination of those features that make it possible to place it in a particular socio-historical context. To this end, in addition to tracing the cultural, historical and literary background of the noir novel (its origins), the research focuses on the narrative techniques used (plot layout, conflicts developed, spatial, narrative and socio-critical elements), on its founding authors and their variants, and on the evolution of the genre. In short, considering detective fiction as a cultural product in dialogue with its own era, we intend to contribute to the reflection on the role of the noir genre as a strategic cultural space of social criticism, finding out if there is indeed a common substrate in noir literature on both sides of the world.
