Resumen
Social networks have been a turning point in the interaction, communication and learning of the population, especially since the confinement by COVID-19. The educational sphere is no stranger to this phenomenon, with an adaptation taking place in parallel to that of society. Of all the social networks, Instagram, Tik-Tok and YouTube are the ones that enjoy the greatest trust and loyalty among teenagers and university students (millennials and generation Z). This study evaluates the impact of social networks among students of eight official degrees of the Faculty of Education of the Complutense University of Madrid. The sample is made up of 207 informants from different degrees, double degrees and master’s degrees. The study, of an exploratory-descriptive nature, shows how students perceive the need to transfer the teaching-learning processes to a multimodal environment such as Instagram, discarding classic social networks such as Facebook or You-Tube. Furthermore, in addition to their own motivation for the use of technology, the informants condition its implementation on other essential variables such as the semiotics of discourse, coeducation, the pedagogical purpose or the multimodal literacy of students and teachers. The study concludes that prospective training in digital literacy and critical thinking is necessary to guarantee not only the acquisition of knowledge, but also the development of social and civic competences in a digital context.
