OBJECTIVE: Prevention and epidemiology in Eating Disorders (ED) in galician early teenagers. METHODOLOGY: Randomized trial with an intervention group (curriculum ZARIMA) and a control group in a community sample of 1st Course of Secondary Education students during 2007 with twelve months follow-up. EVALUATION: By means of the Eating Attitudes Test-26 and the SCAN3 diagnostic interview in order to detect eating disorder cases. RESULTS: The study was conducted in 16 public and private centers of Santiago, Vigo and Orense with a total of 30 classrooms. 10,45% of the students were in risk of ED during the first year in contrast with 5,9% during the second year. The punctual prevalence of ED in the first year was of 7/641, the 1,1,% of Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS)F50.9; while, the punctual prevalence of ED in the second year was of 6/595, 1% of EDNOS F50.9 and Bulimia Nervosa (BN) F50.3. CONCLUSIONS: Our results show an important decrease of the risk for ED at the end of the year of follow-up, while remains stable the percentage of new cases detected.
