Abstract

Many researches have shown that ACTN3 genotype is associated to high performance in sports, by means of speed and explosive strength links. The aim of this study was to determine if sprint, middle- distance and endurance swimmers have an ACTN3 genotypic distribution different to the regular sedentary. A total of 75 Spanish senior sprinters, middle distance and long distance swimmers and 123 sedentary subjects participate in this study. Data did not shown significance difference between ACTN3 genotype in different groups. In conclusion, genotype distribution was similar between different swimmers groups and sedentary population. It is necessary to go on a deeper study ACTN3 polymorphism relationship with different performance factors in swimming.
