Resumen
The aims of this research are to know how perceived health status in Spanish older people and to analyze if there are differences according to their sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, social class and demographic size). A cross-sectional study has been made with a sample of 933 people of this population. The sampling was multistage and applied a structured questionnaire. The results show that the elderly in Spain state that they feel fairly or very much satisfied with their health. Besides, it has been obtained that exits a significant relationship between perceived health status and gender [χ2 (3) =7.761; Φ = .09; p = .05], social class [χ2 (6) =27.259; Φ = .17; p = < .01] and demographic size [χ2 (9) =55.316; Φ = .24; p = < .01]. No relationship was found with age. Correlation data corroborate previous findings researches and suggest the necessity to take into account the sociodemographic characteristics when working with this population segment.
