Resum
According to previous studies, half of women in Nicaragua have suffered physical, psychological or sexual abuse from their partners or ex-partners (INIDE, 2008). The main aim of this research is to delve into beliefs and insights of women professionals in charge of victim-assistance care in León (Nicaragua). The study sample is composed of 38 workers from Comisaría de la Mujer y la Niñez (police branch), Centro de Apoyo Psicosocial (victim-assistance spot) and some other regional entities. The results reflect that professionals deal with several difficulties while assisting women victims, such as the pressures of the environment or their own lack of gender-basedissues training. As a result, their intervention strategies vary depending on their general knowledge about gender-based violence.
