Resumen

The aim is to analyse the concept of utopia from its role as an axis of social criticism and a source of progress. We look deeper into Hinkelammert, for whom utopias act as the activating elements of the totality-totalization dialectic. On the basis of Habermas’s theory of communicative action, we reflect on whether the distinction can erect as criticism and/or subversion towards the established social contexts. It is concluded that an utopia is a space to be occupied, a scenario where human imagination is released towards the pursuit of a better future.
