Abstract

This research paper deals with the study of the figure of Juanjo Menéndez as a theater stage director, defining his style, to extract a clear idea of his contributions to the theater of his time.The study of the information contained in the direction notebooks of the works that he directed, analyzing his interventions and modifications of the text, to assign relevance to the indications and guidelines that he noted, wrote and drew in said notebooks, obtaining, as a result, a vision of his poetics as a theater creator.Beginning with the study of his biography, extensive as a theater, film and television actor and, at the same time, producer and theater director, with his own company in some periods. To then face his creative task with the period that corresponded him to live, in its social, political and cultural context and, within the latter, with special attention to the theatrical context.The core of the investigation is made up of the analysis of his director's notebooks, beginning with the identification of the original scripts and the study of the annotations, erasures, amendments, additions, diagrams and drawings to discover their purpose, their personal imprint on the address.From the study of the spectacular creation tools on which a stage director relies, identifying his personal treatment of rhythm, proxemics, synesics, acting performance, light, sound, atmosphere and other signifiers to reach the definition of a way of working and the identification of a result typical of this creator to attribute the existence of a personal poetics of Juanjo Menéndez...
